These are superlatives visitors to this city typically choose when asked to describe Bergen. With currently 225 000 inhabitants and a history dating back some 925 years, this pulsating city offers a unique atmosphere. The city is a former Hanseatic port and the birthplace of the great 18th century writer of comedies, Ludvig Holberg, and the famous 19th century composer Edvard Grieg.

Bergen offers Europe’s largest areas of old wooden houses, still in use. The down town Fish market is truly world famous and a heaven for salmon lovers!

Bergen is known as «the gateway to the fjords» and is the natural starting point for breathtaking fjord explorations. Bergen is thus the ideal travel destination, offering an attractive combination of mountains, sea and historical city

The 2nd Bergen Conference on the Treatment of Psychopathy brought together leading international experts and almost 300 attendees from all over the world to discuss current issues in the conceptualisation, assessment and treatment of this most challenging of clinical presentations. The meeting focused on psychopathy but placed this disorder and its understanding and management in the broader context of personality disorder.

The Bergen conference also created a ‘think-tank’ for developing future treatment methods and targets from the best available knowledge. Based on feedback from both attendees and presenters, we are satisfied that the conference successfully met its objectives and was enjoyed by all who participated. We hope to see you all again at 3rd Bergen Conference on the Treatment of Psychopathy in a few years time.

Yours sincerely,

Caroline, Siri, Helge Andreas & Knut

…and a very warm welcome to the website of the 2nd Bergen Conference on the Treatment of Psychopathy. The 1st Bergen Conference was held in November 2004. This was a significant event in the development internationally of treatment interventions for people with psychopathy. It is our ambition that the 2nd meeting will take us a few steps further on towards effective treatment strategies and a deeper understanding of psychopathy and its relationship to other personality disorders.

Six years have passed since our first meeting, where newly developed treatment programs were introduced and critically appraised. It is now time to consider the lessons learned from these programs, and to bring in broader perspectives on issues related to making interventions work for patients and prisoners with psychopathic traits.

We cordially invite you to attend our meeting and to share these experiences and your own in order that we might together develop better ways of working with people with psychopathy.

At our conference, all our keynote, plenary, and symposia speakers have been invited to present, selected because they are the most informative practitioners are researchers in the field internationally. We propose to ensure that only the most up to date information and guidance are available for those who attend.

We hope that a visit to BCTP 2011 will give you a both inspiring and enjoyable experience and we look forward to welcoming you to Bergen.

On behalf of the Centre for Research and Education in Forensic Psychiatry – Helse Bergen,
